Brighter Gorgeous Straighter Better Smiles

Smile Design in Pembroke Pines, FL

Our smile is an important part of our overall appearance. A great smile can light up the room. And there’s no reason to live with a smile you don’t like to see in the mirror every morning. To get the dazzling smile you’ve always wanted, give us a call at Gonzalez Dental Care and let’s see how we can change things with Smile Design. For our Smile Design treatments, we use the latest techniques in cosmetic dentistry to give you a perfect smile.

What is smile design?

At Gonzalez Dental Care, we think of our Smile Design program as an opportunity for our patients to have the beautiful, dazzling smile they’ve always wanted. Smile Design involves meeting with Dr. Gonzalez, Dr. Colon, or Dr. Carmenate. They examine your smile and overall oral situation and then design a treatment plan that makes your smile cosmetically perfect. This is a Smile Design.

What are the goals of smile design?

A big part of these cosmetic makeovers with Dr. Gonzalez and our team is first finding the things you like about your smile and what you’d like to improve. With Smile Design, we don’t have a set group of procedures; everything we do is based on your unique situation.

These are areas we will address when considering what treatments to include in your Smile Design:
  • Alignment and spacing

These treatments don’t address serious alignment issues that would require orthodontic treatment. But we do target problems such as slightly crooked teeth, gaps between teeth, and misshapen teeth. Porcelain veneers can do an amazing job masking these problems.

  • Missing teeth

Replacing missing teeth doesn’t qualify as truly “cosmetic,” but this is surely a part of a cosmetic upgrade for your smile. If you’re missing a tooth or two, we believe dental implants are far and away the best replacement option. If you’re missing a series of teeth a bridge, or even a partial denture, can be used.

  • Tooth color

Every Smile Design at Gonzalez Dental Care includes teeth whitening. It’s usually our first procedure because whitening returns your teeth to their natural whiteness. From there we can match other pieces of the puzzle, such as porcelain veneers, to your natural, whitened tooth color. If your teeth are stained beneath the enamel, possibly from a reaction to tetracycline as a child, we can cover the stained fronts with porcelain veneers.

  • Balance

A balanced smile is a good-looking smile. If you have an overly gummy smile, it can be the only thing a person talking with you notices. Gum contouring can reduce the height of your gums and lengthen your teeth (visually). Otherwise, we’ll fix or cover chips and cracks in your teeth with dental bonding, porcelain veneers, or porcelain crowns.

Would I be a good candidate for smile design?

No one has a perfectly natural smile. There isn’t a threshold to qualify for Smile Design at Gonzalez Dental Care; it depends on your goals. One requirement is that your basic oral health is good. Smile Design involves various cosmetic fixes to your smile. Serious oral health problems such as tooth decay, missing the majority or all your teeth, and gum disease have to be dealt with before any Smile Design procedures can begin.

Will my smiles design results be permanent?

Most of these treatments have a shelf life, so to speak. For instance, teeth whitening brightens your teeth many shades, but they’ll stain again with the red wine and raspberries we all like. Porcelain veneers last from 10-15 years, and then you’ll need a new set. If we included Invisalign tooth movement in your Smile Design, that alignment of your teeth is permanent. The same is true with dental implants for replacing a missing tooth or two. Implants usually last the remainder of the patient’s life. Crowns can last anywhere from 10 to 25 years with good oral hygiene. Gum contouring is permanent. Bonding usually lasts about 10 years before it needs refreshing. Composite resin fillings last from 10-15 years, but they can last far longer.

Bottom line — your smile will be dazzling, but parts of it will need future touch-ups, such as teeth whitening, while other parts are for the long haul.

Is there recovery with the treatments involved with smile design?

There is little, if any, recovery with most of these cosmetic treatments. If we place dental implants, there is a short period of healing of your gums when we place the titanium implant base and a second time when we attach the post. But these are not intense, and they certainly won’t require recovery and avoiding your normal routine. You’ll simply need to eat a soft diet for a few days as your gums heal.

With the other treatments in our smile makeovers, you’re out and about immediately after your treatment and loving that bright new smile.

How many appointments will be involved with smile design?

Most of these treatments can be accomplished in just a couple appointments. As mentioned above, it only takes a single appointment to place crowns, thanks to our advanced in-house design and milling capabilities. Porcelain veneers still need to be fabricated in a dental lab, so these treatments require two appointments. Otherwise, placing composite fillings, teeth whitening, dental bonding, and gum contouring take just a single appointment.

When Dr. Gonzalez, Dr. Colon, or Dr. Carmenate meet with you for your consultation, they can give you an idea of what treatments they think you’ll need and your timeframe.

What are the risks involved with smile design treatments

These treatments have little to no risk. With most any dental procedure, there is a slight chance of infection, but that’s rare. Again, remember that these are cosmetic treatments, not oral surgery. The only risk is if you decide to stick with your flawed smile rather than having Dr. Gonzalez and our team give you a dazzling smile with a Smile Design.
